El casco antiguo de Santiago de Compostela, además de su magnífica catedral, constituye la última parada de una de las rutas de peregrinaje más importantes de la cristiandad. En la Catedral se destacan el estilo románico, de su más antiguo origen, el gótico, renacentista, barroco y neoclásico. Es uno de los monumentos más importantes del arte medieval español. En 1985 fue declarada Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO y en 2004 el Premio Príncipe de Asturias a la Concordia.
