La antigua y aristocrática Hue, fue la capital imperial de Vietnam y el asiento de los jefes militares chinos que conquistaron esta zona en el año 200 a.C., y más tarde pasó a ser la ciudad capital de los Cham, una tribu proveniente de la actual Camboya. Con el pasar de los años, en 1802, pasó a la dinastía de la familia Nguyen hasta 1945, cuando el último emperador abdicó.
