Budapest, Hungary

On the 21th of June 1936, Budapest hosted its first international Grand Prix event at the Nepliget 3.1 miles (5km) long circuit which was won by the great Tazio Nuvolari with an Alfa Romeo 3.8 V-8 ahead of Bernd Rosemeyer, Achille Varzi, Manfred von Brauchitsch, Hans von Stuck and Rudolf Caracciola.

Auto Union, Mercedes Benz ‘die Silberpfeile’ (Silver Arrows) and Alfa Romeo-Ferrari all sent three cars and the event drew a very large crowd.

Nepliget (People Park) is located in Budapest, Hungary.  It is a popular central bus station for coaches.  In front of the big bus station, there is a large, open field wich is practically the Nepliget Park.

More than 100,000 spectators were on hand to watch the battle around the twisty figure 8 circuit.  Victory went to Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari’s Alfa Romeo by 14 seconds over the young ‘as’ Bernd Rosemeyer’s Auto Union.

The only driver in the world who could challenge and beat the powerful Auto Union and Mercedes Benz ‘Silver Arrows’ had done it again.
